Melodies soared, extolling the glory of the times; voices resounded, showcasing the elegance of educators. On the evening of October 25th, the Central South University "Harmonizing with CSU • Passing on the Torch" 2025 Faculty Choral Performance concluded at the Harmony Hall, Yuxiu Building, Xiaoxiang Campus. The faculty choir from the School of Metallurgy and Environment won second prize with a soulful and majestic performance of "Light in China".
The performance hall was brilliantly lit and filled with a fervent atmosphere. Members of the School of Metallurgy and Environment faculty choir took the stage with high spirits and confident composure, instantly capturing the attention of the entire audience. As the music began, they delivered an exquisite rendition of "Light in China" with full enthusiasm: their voices painted the warm tableau of "the city's streets and alleys already aglow with shimmering lights" as well as conveyed the grand sentiment of "the brilliant Chinese Dream illuminated by countless lights." The harmonious interplay of high and low vocal parts, with emotions building layer upon layer, unfolded a magnificent scroll depicting the century-long journey from the "spark of a single star" to the "myriad lights" of the new era. Those lights represent both the undying beacon fires of the war years, bearing the sincere dedication and resilience of our forebears in defending the homeland, and the burning fervor of teachers and students who remember history, illuminating the nation's vast journey of carrying forward the past and forging ahead courageously. Their performance earned warm applause from the judges and audience present.
Efforts duly rewarded, excellence achieved. This accomplishment is attributed to the unity, collaboration, and concerted efforts of all choir members. Cheng Qiongwen, Party Committee Secretary and Chair of the School's Labor Union, promoted and participated in the routine rehearsals; Dean Min Xiaobo visited rehearsal sessions to cheer on the faculty participants. Choir members overcame difficulties and devoted themselves fully to the regular practice sessions. The School's Labor Union committee and the Comprehensive Office provided efficient coordination and meticulous support, offering all-around support from personnel arrangement and organized training to competition services and logistical support, effectively resolving various issues. It was the all-out dedication and close cooperation from all parties that laid a solid foundation for the excellent result in this competition.
Participation in this event was not merely a display of artistic flair but also a vivid manifestation of inheriting and promoting the cultural spirit of the discipline of metallurgy. It fully demonstrated the achievements in the cultural development of the School of Metallurgy and Environment and the positive mental outlook of its faculty and staff. This will further inspire all members of the School to forge ahead with determination, take proactive responsibility, and pool strengths to advance the construction of first-class disciplines and promote the connotative, high-quality development of the School.
